CodeMark™
What is CodeMark?CodeMark is building product certification scheme set up by the Australian Building Codes Board.1 Building products and systems displaying the CodeMark logo have been assessed that they comply with the relevant sections of the Building Code of Australia (BCA).
CodeMark was established to assist all those in the building industry including, product manufacturers, designers, architects, certifiers, builders AND consumers. The system is national; the system rules are the same in all states. Australian States and Territory legislation requires that CodeMark products must be accepted by all certifying authorities nationally. CodeMark certificates are issued for 3 years and the holders are subject to annual assessment during the three year period. Certified products are issued a unique certificate number. The Kordon Certificate number is shown below the Mark of Conformity above. 1 The scheme is administered in New Zealand by the New Zealand Department of Building and Housing (DBH) Sections of the BCA with which Kordon CompliesKordon complies with all the relevant sections of the BCA for a termite barrier and moisture barrier. This includes the Queensland Variation requiring termite barriers to have a design life of 50 years and the Northern Territory Variation that they must be effective against Mastotermes darwiniensis the large and voracious termite of Australian tropics. For the consumer this means if they have Kordon installed their termite barrier will last for at least 50 years and is effective against all the termite species affecting buildings in Australia. Benefits of CodeMarkFor the building industry and home owners the benefits of Kordon having CodeMark certification are:
How are products assessed for CodeMark? The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) was formed to oversee issues relating to the health, safety, amenity and sustainability of buildings throughout Australia. It is an initiative of the State and Federal governments. The ABCB appointed the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS – ANZ) to oversee the work of certification bodies who evaluate and certify the building product for CodeMark. The certification bodies are all experienced auditing bodies who also conduct assessment and auditing under other certification schemes such as ISO and HACCP. The certification body that assessed Kordon was Global-Mark. For some aspects of the assessment Global-Mark appointed experts to assess specific aspects. For example an independent expert in entomology was used to assess the 18 years of fields trials of exposure of Kordon to all types of conditions and termites at several location in Australia. For Kordon the following was assessed as part of the certification process.
Certification was very thorough and took over nine months to complete. JAS-ANZ and the ABCB were closely involved in overseeing the process. Certification requires an annual audit on those areas deemed necessary by the certification company. The CodeMark certification further validates the quality, performance and assurance of Bayer’s Kordon Termite Barrier. Other CertificationKordon has also been certified to:
